Kakkar took her first cry, in Rishikesh, Uttarakhand. She is the younger sister of playback singer Sonu Kakkar and brother, Tony Kakkar, who is also a singer and music director by profession. She grew up in Delhi and persuaded her studies from New Holy Public School, Uttam Nagar in New Delhi. When she participated in Indian Idol Season 2, she was a mere student of class 11 and was among the top 10finalists of the show.
